Just Juice Free Vape Recycling Scheme

At Just Juice, we are committed to reducing the environmental impact of vaping products. As part of our sustainability pledge, we’re proud to introduce our Free Vape Recycling Scheme—designed to make it easy and responsible for you to dispose of used E-liquid bottles, vape devices, pods, and batteries.

Why Recycle?

Disposable vapes, e-liquid bottles, and batteries contain valuable materials that can be reused, along with hazardous components that need proper handling. Throwing them in the bin can harm the environment and violate UK waste regulations. Recycling ensures we reduce waste and protect the planet.

What Can You Recycle with Us?

We accept the following items through our scheme:

  • Just Juice Disposable vapes
  • Empty pods and cartridges
  • Rechargeable vape devices (mod kits, pod kits)
  • Vape batteries (built-in or removable)
  • Empty e-liquid bottles (rinsed)

How It Works

We’ll recycle any vapes purchased from Just Juice—and we’ve made it easy whether you’re local or further away:

  1. Drop-off in Person: If you’re nearby, simply bring your used vapes to our Preston HQ and leave them with us. We’ll handle the recycling for you—free of charge.
  2. Send by Courier: Not local? No problem. You can send your used vapes to us via courier. Please include a small note that says:
    “Please recycle these products."
  3. Important Note: Not all couriers accept used batteries, so please check with your courier before sending anything in that contains a built-in or removable battery.

Once we receive your items, we’ll ensure they are recycled safely and responsibly in line with UK regulations.

As a responsible retailer, Ventura Consultancy LTD strictly follows the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive, ensuring we actively contribute to the recovery, reuse, and recycling of vape products and their components. We’ve partnered as part of the Distributor Takeback Scheme (DTS) with Valpak a UK-wide Waste Electronic & Electrical Equipment recycling service.

If you’re unable to send items directly to us, many large supermarkets and some high street retailers offer battery and vape collection points—perfect to use while you’re out shopping.

Important Reminders

  • Don’t throw vapes in general rubbish – they can cause fires and leak harmful chemicals.
  • Don’t put them in household recycling – mixed materials and batteries make them unsuitable for regular recycling.
  • Always choose certified WEEE recyclers or collection points.

Why Can't Vapes Be Thrown Away with Household Recycling or Rubbish?

  • **Vapes Contain Hazardous Materials**: Most vapes (especially disposables) have built-in lithium-ion batteries, which are a fire hazard if punctured or crushed.
  • **They’re Electrical Waste**: Vapes fall under WEEE regulations and need specialist treatment.
  • **Batteries Must Be Recycled Separately**: Lithium batteries contain toxic materials.
  • **Household Recycling Systems Aren’t Built for Vapes**: They contain mixed materials that can't be sorted properly.

The right way to dispose of vapes in the UK:

  • Use a dedicated vape recycling scheme
  • Drop them off at WEEE collection points or battery bins
  • Take them to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC)

How to Recycle Vape Pods (Step-by-Step – UK Guide)

Vape pods are made from a mix of plastic, metal, and sometimes electronics, so they need to be disposed of properly. Here’s how to prepare your used pods for safe and responsible recycling in the UK:

1. Switch Off (If Applicable)

If your pod device has a power button, make sure it’s switched off before you begin. This helps keep things safe and makes the next steps easier. If your device is draw-activated (without a button), like many disposables, you can skip this step.

2. Disassemble the Pod

Carefully remove the pod from the main device. If it’s a refillable pod, empty out any remaining e-liquid and give it a quick rinse to remove residue, if safe to do so.

3. Remove Coils or Batteries (If Removable)

Some pod systems have replaceable coils or even removable batteries. These parts should be taken out and recycled separately, as they fall under different recycling categories.

4. Prepare the Battery (If Removable)

If your pod device has a removable battery:

  • Take the battery out.
  • Cover both ends (the positive and negative terminals) with non-conductive tape (such as electrical or masking tape).

This helps prevent short circuits or fire hazards if the battery comes into contact with other metal items during transport.

How to Recycle E-Liquid Bottles Properly

Most e-liquid comes in plastic (usually PET) or glass bottles, which can be recycled if properly prepared:

  1. Use Up or Dispose of Remaining Liquid Responsibly Use all the e-liquid if possible.

    • If you need to dispose of unused liquid (expired or unwanted), contact your local Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) and ask if they have a hazardous waste disposal service for small volumes of nicotine liquid.
    • Alternatively, mix the small amount of liquid with something absorbent (like coffee grounds or cat litter), seal it in a bag, and dispose of it in general waste — but only if your council does not offer hazardous disposal.

  2. Rinse the Bottle

    • Once empty, rinse the bottle thoroughly with warm water to remove any residue.
    • If the bottle had nicotine, wear gloves and rinse over a sink — but never rinse large amounts down the drain.

  3. Separate the Cap and Dropper

    • Plastic bottles and glass bottles can go in your household recycling bin, provided they’re clean.
    • Remove and discard the plastic cap and dropper (if present) — these are often non-recyclable and should go in general waste unless marked otherwise.

Tips for Safe Disposal

  • Store unwanted e-liquid away from children and pets until disposal.
  • Never burn or incinerate e-liquid containers.
  • Check your local council’s website for specific hazardous waste guidance.
